Description
Thick snow covers an 18 pounder field gun belonging to 8th Battery, 3rd Field Artillery. Members of the 9th Battery, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade (3FAB), stand around the field gun. Identified, left to right: 2866 Corporal Clifton Kennard, who returned to Australia (RTA); 3055 Gunner (Gnr) William Francis Felan, died of wounds on 29 March 1918; 3072 Gnr Dermot Morrison Ryan, died of wounds on 4 August 1917, aged 23 years; 2885 Gnr Graham Parker and 1772 Sergeant Stanley G Brearley, RTA. To combat the cold, some of the troops had been issued with macintosh coats. Note the ice and snow covering the wire netting and bushes placed on top of the gun for camouflage.
