Sykes, Robert Percival "Percy" (Private, b.1891 - d.1916)
Description
Papers of No. 2812B Private Robert Percival (Percy) Sykes (3rd and 18th Battalions), comprising: (i) diary describing his experiences in Egypt and in the front line in France (from April 1916) (ii) a letter to his family from the front (iii) Catholic souvenirs. They are all informed by his and his family's strong Catholic faith and interest. He was killed in action on 29 June 1916, six days after the last diary entry. The collection includes a newscutting from the "Goulburn Penny Post" reproducing a letter from Private Cyprian J. Bryant titled 'How Private Percy Sykes Died'.
