An unidentified private of the 10th Battalion. Bean photographed this soldier to document his battle order kit in the condition in which it came out of the battle of Merris, with the aim of collecting the uniform for the Australian War Memorial. A different uniform, that of 4172 Private (Pte) George James Giles, 29th Battalion, was actually collected.
