Studio portrait of 2nd Lieutenant Hugo Vivien Hope Throssell VC, 10th Light Horse Regiment, of Northam, WA. A farmer prior to his enlistment on 5 October 1914 he embarked from Fremantle on 19 February 1915 on board HMAT Itonus. Throssell was awarded the Victoria Cross for most conspicuous bravery at Gallipoli. He was later promoted to the rank of captain.
