The two soldiers preparing a meal are 2402 Pte George Dilworth Stubbs from Pallamallawa, NSW (killed in action near Villers-Bretonneux, France on 27 May 1918) on the left and 12290 Pte George Arthur Smaills MM from Kempsey, NSW on the right.
