History / Summary

Associated with the service of George William Fletcher. During the First World War, he enlisted (No 1350) in the 7th Reinforcements, 13 Light Horse Regiment, AIF, at Melbourne on 28 June 1915. He later served in 13 Battery, 5 Field Artillery Brigade, returning to Australia on 16 March 1919 after service in the Middle East and on the Western Front. Driver Fletcher was discharged 19 October 1919. During the Second World War, he served again, as a signalman (V376225) in 3 Lines of Communications, Australian Corps of Signals. George Fletcher died of illness whilst stationed in Victoria, on 31 May 1943, at the age of 49. He is buried in Seymour General Cemetery. His son Valwyn served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War.
