On patrol, near Suai (Wendy Sharpe, Private Cameron Simpson and unidentified soldier)
Depicts the artist Wendy Sharpe, Private Cameron Simpson and an unidentified soldier 'on patrol' near Suai, East Timor. `Virtually all my work is narrative, though not always as obviously as the work from East Timor. I often paint something I've experienced directly or that I've imagined, depicting a story or psychological state with a female protagonist. The paintings and drawings from Darwin and East Timor show what I experienced each day, like diary entries.' Wendy Sharpe, 29 May 2000. Wendy Sharpe was appointed official artist in December 1999, travelling to Darwin, where she attended briefing sessions with Australian INTERFET personnel. In East Timor she was attached to the Army History Unit in Dili, where she recorded the work of the Australian peacekeepers and East Timorese people.
