Studio portrait of brothers VX61887 Captain Lindsay Newton, a dentist in the Australian Army ...
Description
Studio portrait of brothers VX61887 Captain Lindsay Newton, a dentist in the Australian Army Medical Corps, Surgeon Lieutenant John Newton, Royal Australian Navy, and 250748 Flight Lieutenant William (Bill) Newton, Royal Australian Air Force. The photograph was a spontaneous idea after the three brothers met by chance at the Hotel Australia in Melbourne.
Flight Lieutenant William Newton would later be awarded the Victoria Cross. The award was made posthumously as Newton was executed by the Japanese on 29 March 1943 after being shot down over Salamaua. Surgeon Lieutenant John Newton survived the sinking of HMAS Canberra on 9 August 1942.
