Description

Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. 17 December 1915. In order to prevent the Turks noticing the emptiness of the roads, fatigues were put on at various points visible to the enemy with instructions to lounge about and smoke. The Turks observed these fatigues and shelled them. At the rear of the fatigue in the distance can be seen across the path the hole made by a shell from the Turkish gun, "Beachy Bill".
