Three Australian servicemen reading the paper while waiting on the wharf after their release from a Japanese prisoner of war camp are, NX47085 Thomas 'Tom' Curry Kellett of Newcastle, NSW, NX45364 William Birdwood 'Bill' Fleming of Lismore, NSW, NX1677 Verdun Clive (Clive) 'Spanky' Ball of Peak Hill, NSW. Note Verdun was named after the town in France where there was a major battle of the First World War in 1916. Details of a mat made by Clive Ball while a prisoner of war on Ambon is held at REL22370.
