Portrait of Private (Pte) Ronald Edward Francis (Ron) Lucas who enlisted on 3 September 1941 with the service number NX44228. He was discharged from 2/4 Pioneer Battalion as medically unfit on 8 April 1942. Pte Lucas was serving in Darwin during the first Japanese air raid. He re-enlisted on 17 August 1942 with the service number NX108873 and served with 2/1 Australian Guard Regiment. He was discharged on 21 November 1945. Lucas also served with the Militia with the service number N268899. He was one of nine brothers from the Lucas family who enlisted from the Bega district. Many of the brothers had multiple enlistments and some enlisted together and served together for periods of time.
