Description
225 Private J Johnson (left), and 274 Lance Corporal E Moodie (right), both members of the 3rd Pioneer Battalion, typical Australians, greet the photographer through a shell hole in one of the ruined houses of Armentieres. This house was situated at Rue Belfort, 15 Armentieres. Bricks and rubble were salvaged from these ruins for building gun emplacements and putting down horse lines during the winter of 1916.
