Description
A Hotchkiss Mk 1 light machine gun, manned by members of the 13th Australian Light Horse Machine Gun Company, in position for anti aircraft defence, at Nonne Bosschen, between Polygon and Glencorse Wood, in the Ypres Sector. On the sky line is a structure supposed to have previously been an anti tank gun position. An unknown soldier lies buried in the shell hole in the foreground identified by a wooden cross. The scene is typical of the devastation wrought during the momentous battles in the Ypres sector. Identified manning the gun, left to right, are: Sergeant Innes; Sapper Roberts (back); Sapper Arrowsmith (aiming gun); Lance Corporal McInnes.
