Description
VX104461 Sergeant (Sgt) Jack Allan Charles Knight (right)) and VX147137 Pte Francis Cyril Barr (holding a rifle), both 24 Infantry Battalion troops, on a mine clearing operation. Pte Knight operates an electric mine detector trying to locate Japanese mines and booby traps placed in position along the Buin Road below the Hongorai River. In December 1945 Sergeant Knight was awarded the George Medal for "personal bravery clearing mines and booby traps".
