Studio portrait of 4643 Private (Pte) James Fitzgibbon Daly, 8th Battalion, of Ballarat, Vic. A salesman prior to enlistment, Pte Daly embarked with the 14th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Themistocles on 28th January 1916. After transferring to the 58th Battalion he was killed in action on 19th July 1916 and was buried in the Rue-Du-Bois Military Cemetery, near Armentieres, France. His brother 4474 Pte William Warren Daly, who embarked with him, died of wounds received in action on 22nd July 1916.
