Description

Studio portrait of 3532 Private (Pte) George Henry Landy, 8th Battalion from South Melbourne, Victoria. A 21 year old carter prior to enlisting on 21 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 8th Reinforcements of the 24th Battalion from Melbourne on 5 January 1916 aboard HMAT Afric. Whilst in transit in Egypt, he transferred to the 8th Battalion and proceeded with them to France where he was wounded in action at Pozieres. Three days later, Pte Landy died from his wounds on 29 July 1916 and was buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
