Description
Studio portrait of 498 Lance Corporal George Melbourne Wyeth, 22nd Battalion from Albert Park, Victoria. A 25 year old bookkeeper prior to enlisting in the AIF on 3 February 1915, he embarked for overseas with B Company from Melbourne on 10 May 1915 aboard HMAT Ulysses. While serving at Gallipoli, he was promoted to Lance Corporal on 18 June 1915. Later on the Western Front, he was wounded in action on 22 June 1916 near Bois Grenier, France and died of wounds the following day. He is buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
