Description

Collection relating to the First World Service of Private Bruce Garie Thomson, 3rd Field Ambulance, Gallipoli. Collection consists of a photocopied transcript of a diary kept by Thomson between May 1915 and May 1916. It contains regular entries covering his departure from Australia, journey to Egypt, service on Gallipoli from August 1915 until evacuation in December 1915, return to Egypt, and arrival in France in April 1916.

In January 1918, Thomson qualifed as a Flying Officer and joined No 3 Squadron. He was killed on 8 October 1918 when his aircraft disappeared while observing enemy artillery positions over France.
