Evatt, Raymond Scott (Lieutenant, MC, 20th Bn b.1896 - d.1917)
Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Raymond Scott Evatt MC, 20 Battalion. Collection consists of an extensive collection of letters and postcards (187 x original, 38 x transcripts) written home to family, commencing in May 1915 with his embarkation from Australia to just before his death in September 1917. Letters discuss all aspects of service including engagements, trench life and conscription issues. Also included is official notification of Evatt's MC (Military Cross) for action near Warlencourt in February1917, and Birdwood's letter of congratulations on the award. Lt Evatt was killed in action on 20 September 1917 in Belgium.
