Fetherston, Richard Herbert Joseph (Major General, Director General of Medical Services, AAMS, b.1864 - d.1943)
Description
This collection consists of papers relating to Fetherston's work as Director General of Medical Services. As well as administration of the services (part of the Department of Defence) his work involved 2 tours of inspection of AIF personnel (nurses, doctors, pharmacists, masseurs and dentists) plus the institutions in which they worked and those directly administered by the AIF Medical Services. Throughout his period as Director General, Fetherston received letters from regular correspondents many complaining about conditions or problems caused by the administrative structure or arrangements or by personalities involved. See also guides to the papers of Butler, Barrett, Springthorpe, Howse and Argyle.
