Munro Ferguson, Sir Ronald (Governor General)
Collection of papers relating to Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson, also known as Lord Novar, Governor-General of Australia during the First World War. Consists of an extensive series of letters written by Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood, chiefly, 1915-1919. Birdwood recounted the campaigns at Gallipoli and the Western Front as well as discussing the conscription referenda called by Prime Minister William Hughes. Many of the letters written in 1918-1919 focus on the repatriation of Australian troops and Hughes's attendance at the Paris Peace Conference. Other correspondents include the Minister for Defence, and George F Pearce. Infrequent correspondence from King George VI is confined to cablegrams, expressing approval of or congratulations upon, the awarding of military honours.
