Davis, Reginald Henry Saville (Squadron Leader; b.1912 - d.1988)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of Squadron Leader Reginald Henry Saville Davis, No. 1 Squadron, RAAF. Collection consists of operational reports covering No. 1 Squadron's activity in Malaya and Java; various unit evacuation lists; nominal rolls of squadron members held in captivity in Prisoner of War (POW) camps in Burma, Thailand and Japan; personal diary of POW experiences in Manchuria; papers associated with Japanese propaganda messages from Java; newspaper articles; and photographs and cartoons.
Wallet 1: Consists of typed operational reports running from 27 January 1942 through to 8th March 1942, and covers the movements of No. 1 Squadron before the Japanese took control; a handwritten account by 290514 Flight Lieutenant Kenneth Read Smith discussing the conditions of surrender and events prior to being placed under Japanese guard; a detailed report concerning the conditions faced by POWs; lists with information about prisoners; newspaper extracts concerning the war in the Pacific; a document relating to bomb disposal; and various correspondence.
Wallet 3: Consists of various typed documents including a transcript of a propaganda message sent from Java to Australia relating to POWs; interrogation questions and answers relating to Davis; recommendations for awards; various nominal rolls of POWs; and a typed intelligence report from the Station Intelligence Officer, RAAF Station, Sembawang.
Wallet 4: Consists of correspondence between Davis and Air Vice Marshall Sir Paul Maltby; a cartoon in coloured pencil and ink; medical lists; service related papers relating to No. 1 Squadron; serials and newspaper articles; photographs and negatives of No. 1 Squadron and also the unveiling of the Singapore memorial; and one handwritten diary kept by Davis between 25 December 1942 and 7 June 1945 and detailing his time as a POW.
