Drummond, Irene Melville (d.1942)
Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of SX10594 Matron Irene Melville Drummond, 13th Australian General Hospital, AIF. Collection consists of two original letters written by Matron Drummond to her sister in Australia. The letters are handwritten and dated 17 December 1941 and 5 February 1942 and describe the war conditions in Malaya following the outbreak of war with the Japanese. Matron Drummond survived the sinking of the Vyner Brooke, but was later executed by the Japanese on Banka Island on 16 February 1942.
