Description

Collection relating to service of Lieutenant Clarence Timbrell Collier, 53 Battalion, Egypt and France, 1916. Collection includes copies of letters written home to family in Australia and copies of letters providing information about Collier's death after 19 July 1916 in the Battle of Fromelles. Copies made by the Australian War Memorial, 1928. Location of originals unknown.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Served with the 53rd Battalion, AIF. Solicitor of Roseville, N. S. W. Born Geurie, NSW 24 August 1893; educated Geurie Public School, Dubbo High School, Fort Street (Sydney) Model School; Sydney University (Law Degree); enlisted AN & MEF, 18 August 1914 and proceeded to German New Guinea; 4 November 1914 promoted Corporal; 4 March 1915 discharged from AN & MEF; 1 December 1915 appointed Second Lieutenant in A. I. F., and posted to 9th Reinforcements of 18 Battalion; 2; May 1915 transferred to 53 Battalion. Killed in Action during Battle of Fromelles 20 July 1916.
