Collection relating to service of Lieutenant Jacques Montague d'Alpuget, 54 Battalion, Egypt and France, 1916. Collection includes letters written home to his family in Sydney.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Lieutenant, 54th Bn, AIF. Killed 17 July 1916 in No Man's Land before the Battle of Fromelles. Born Albury, NSW 9 December 1886; educated Marist Brothers High School and then St. Aloysius College, North Sydney, distinguished athlete, best known as footballer. Accountant, of Edgecliff, NSW. Footballer (rugby union) first grade Sydney Eastern Suburbs Club, NSW, Australia representation. Joined AIF 1915 as a private, promoted Second Lieutenant to reinforcements 2 Battalion. Embarked on the Nestor, April 1916. Transferred to 54 Battalion in Egypt, 30 May 1916; went to France June 1916. Eldest brother Albert Gustave served with B.E.F and East Surrey Regiment
