Biographical note: Sergeant, 33rd Bn, AIF. 589 Sergeant E. S. Earle, 33 Battalion who on 2 December 1916 was killed in action in the Armentieres sector. Bank clerk of Armidale, NSW; born Armidale; descended from General Philip Shuyler Earle of the American War of Independence; educated privately and also at public school; was a member of the Citizen Forces; joined AIF 18 April 1916; age at time of death 21 years 8 months.
