Evans, Evan Charles (Private, d.1918)
Collection relating to the service of 3383A Private Evan Charles Russell Evans, 46 Battalion, France, 1917-1918. Collection includes letters written home to Victoria, and condolence letters to the family.
This collection of letters written to his mother and siblings, reflects a young man who, despite his own adventures, was very mindful of the work of his family back home in Victoria. Many of the letters contain reference to the raising of pigs and the growing of apples. A number of letters also contain references to Evans' return home.
Biographical note: Private, 46th Bn, AIF. Killed in action at Mont St Quentin, 18 September 1918. Horticulturalist, of Emerald, VIC; born Albert Park, VIC; educated South Melbourne College and at Rockhampton (QLD) Grammar School; served in Citizen Forces at Clare, SA; enlisted AIF 23 February 1917. Age at death 22 years 9 months.
