Foss, Ernest Cecil (Corporal d.1918)
Collection relating to the service of 5969 Corporal Ernest Cecil Foss, 11 Infantry Battalion, England and France, 1916-1918. Collection includes photostat copies of Foss's letters to his mother and sisters describing voyage to England via Cape Town, camp life at Andover and Durrington, England, and active service in France.
This collection reflects Ernest Foss's eagerness to see active frontline service, and his own confidence in his ability to lead men. The letters show his concern for the family farm in Western Australia.
Biographical note: Corporal Ernest Cecil Foss, 11 Battalion, killed in action 3 June 1918 at Merris, France. Farmer, of Batakino, Western Australia. Born Perth, Western Australia; educated at Perth Boys' School; age at time of death, 32.
