Armstrong, William Crouch (Private, b.? - d.1917)
Collection relating to service of 6285 Private William Crouch Armstrong, 26 Battalion, England and France, 1916-1917. Collection consists of thirty-two letters from Private Armstrong to his parents.
This collection of letters indicates Armstrong's strong attachment to his civilian farming life in Queensland and portrays close relationships between soldiers from his local area of North Queensland (Charleville?). Armstrong seeks news from home in every letter and comments on news received of activities at home; his animals, and the activities of the family raising cattle and horse-racing.
Biographical note: 6285 Private William Crouch Armstrong, 26 Battalion. AIF. Killed in action, Zonnebeke, Belgium, 4 October 1917. Son of John and Phoebe Armstrong. Native of Charleville, Queensland.
