McShane, William Stephen (Lieutenant, b.1896 - d.1918)
Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant William Stephen McShane, 6 Battalion AIF. Collection consists of a letter from Herbert Bellamy of Burgh Castle, Great Yarmouth to Lt. McShane, a letter of condolence from Chaplain George Walter Carter, 6 Battalion AIF to Lt. McShane's father, and a letter from 2137/1179 Corporal John McLeod Reid, 6 Battalion AIF to McShane's mother.
Biographical note: Lieutenant William Stephen McShane, 6 Battalion AIF. Carpenter of Bendigo, Victoria; born Bendigo; educated at the Marist Brothers School; was a Lieutenant in the senior cadets at Bendigo; joined the AIF on 7 July 1915; took part in one of the first raids made by the AIF in France; killed in action on 9 August 1918 at Rosieres, France, aged 22.
