McWhinney, Norman Burnett (Private, b.1896 - d.1916)
Collection relating to the service of 2415 Private Norman Burnett McWhinney, 23 Battalion, at sea, Egypt, France, 1915-1916. Collection consists of twenty-three typescript copies of letters written by Private McWhinney to his mother. Location of original letters unknown.
Biographical note: 2415 Private Norman Burnett McWhinney, 23 Battalion AIF, who on 28 July 1916 was killed in action at Pozieres. Other details concerning him are: clerk; of Hawthorn, Victoria; born Hawthorn; educated at Glenferrie State School, and Hawthorn College; served in the senior cadets; age at time of death, 20 years 6 months. Two brothers enlisted in the AIF and returned to Australia wounded - 360 Corporal Rupert Charles McWhinney, 37 Battalion; and 18173 Private Percy Alexander McWhinney, 7 Field Ambulance, AIF.
