Collection relating to the service of 13630 Private Virgil Maguire, 6 Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps, AIF. Collection consists of copies of two letters of condolence sent to Private Maguire's mother in 1917. Location of original letters is unknown.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Private Virgil Maguire, stretcher-bearer in the 6th Field Ambulance, who was killed by shell fire on the battlefield near Zonnebeke on 27 September 1917 while bringing in a wounded man. Other biographical details concerning him are: Electrician in the PMG's Department, of Wynnum, Queensland; born Parramatta, NSW, educated at Wynnum, and at Dutton Park Boys' School, Brisbane; age at time of death, 23. He had served in the Senior Cadets and Citizens Forces of the CMF, and was a cousin of Colonel Frederick Arthur Maguire, AAMC.
