Sampson, Victor Horatio Buller (Major, b.? - d.1916)
Collection relating to Major Victor Horatio Buller Sampson, Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) and 53 Battalion, AIF, 1914-1916, German New Guinea, at sea, Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front. Collection consists of one letter written by Major Sampson to his parents in August 1915; a handwritten copy of an address, in Pidgin English, which Major Sampson delivered to the indigenous peoples of New Ireland (New Guinea).
Biographical note: Major Victor Horatio Buller Sampson, 53 Battalion (late 19 Battalion), AIF, and formerly of the AN&MEF (New Guinea), who was killed in action on 19 July 1916 in the Battle of Fromelles. Other biographical details concerning him are: clerk in the AMP Society; of Sydney; born Upper Manilla, NSW; educated at a public school and afterwards at Tamworth Grammar School; age at time of death, 28.
