Scanlon, Daniel Joseph (Sergeant, 49th Battalion)
Description
Collection relating to the service of Sergeant Daniel Scanlon of the 49th Battalion. The collection consists of primarily of letters written by Scanlon in which he describes enlisting and training in Australia and Heliopolis. Also included are two letters from England which mention battles in France including Somme, Ypres, Pozieres and particularly Mouquet farm. Scanlon also comments on conscription, hospitals in England and relatives in Ireland. The collection also includes one letter from the Scanlon's relatives in Ireland.
