National Army of Democratic Kampuchea (NADK - the Khmer Rouge's military arm) General (Gen) Khieu Sophon (centre), studies papers at a meeting of the Mixed Military Working Group (MMWG), a high-level forum for all four Cambodian military factions and the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC)'s military contingent representatives. To the left, out of focus, is Army of National Khmer Independence (ANKI - royalist military) General (Gen) Uoeung Bunthy. First meeting on 28 December 1991, usually at the French Protector's Residence in Phnom Penh, the MMWG had been formed by the United Nations Advance Mission in Cambodia (UNAMIC) and continued under UNTAC.
