Description

An informal portrait of 224845 Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Martin Studdert, officer commanding the Australian Force Communications Unit (FCU) contingent of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) from 7 December 1992 until 7 October 1993. Lt Col Studdert is standing in front of the sign at the gates of the Australian headquarters at Phnom Penh, known to the Cambodians as 'Pteah Australii'. The Australian FCU, while based in Phnom Penh, had smaller contingents scattered throughout Cambodia as communications support for all the other UNTAC military contingents. Lt Col Studdert made a deliberate effort to increase the number of women in the contingent and was appointed a member of the Order of Australia for his service in Cambodia.
