Description
A Cambodian bride and her mother finalise the preparations for her wedding ceremony in a small village in the southern Cambodian province of Takeo. Traditionally, the wedding ceremony is held at the bride's house to pay honour to the woman as the manager of household affairs. Afterwards, the village will celebrate with a communal meal. In the Khmer Rouge period, marriage and its associated Buddhist traditions was forbidden unless sanctioned by authorities. Recent evidence suggests that mass marriages were performed, often against women's wishes.
