Description

A pole with a grass frond and a plastic drink bottle attached to the top serves as a makeshift mine warning and marking device in an area of scrub land on the outskirts of Battambang. In 1993, it was estimated that twenty million mines were stockpiled in Cambodia with a further eight to ten million mines undiscovered, and that they had been used at a rate and with such indiscretion that over 300 Cambodians were killed or maimed by mines every month.
