A Cambodian man, victim of an anti personnel landmine, learns to walk again using a prosthetic leg with assistance from a Handicap International volunteer physiotherapist at the Wat Than Rehabilitation Centre, located on Norodom Boulevard in the centre of Phnom Penh. He is one of an estimated 35,000 Cambodians disabled by landmines who live in Phnom Penh and is wearing a prosthetic leg fabricated on site. Established in 1991 and run by Cambodia's Ministry of Social Action, Labor and Veterans Affairs with the assistance of aid agencies Maryknoll, Handicap International and the American Quakers, Wat Than incorporates rehabilitation facilities as well as a Skill Training Programme where participants undergo six months training in tailoring, carpentry, typing, literacy and English language study. At the end of the training, participants receive a kit of tools with the option of becoming involved in all aspects of the running of the business, selling their handicrafts through the Wat Than showroom.
