Description
A baby in a ward at Thmar Puok Hospital in Banteay Meanchey Province sleeps with an intravenous drip attached to a splint on his arm. Lack of resources in many regional Cambodian hospitals often means there is no attempt made to separate patients according to age, illness or stage of recovery. Simple resources such as lightbulbs, proper surgical instruments, disinfectant and even glass in the ward windows is often lacking and what resources are available are usually strained to the limit. Added to this burden are terrifying raids on the hospital by bandits who target valuables and drugs.
