Description

An informal portrait of Veng Sereyvuth, a survivor of a Khmer Rouge concentration camp in Battambang province who moved to New Zealand to study political science before returning to Cambodia to represent the National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia (FUNCINPEC) Party on the Supreme National Council (SNC) secretariat. The SNC was an Australian initiative designed to bring all four major factions together as representative of Cambodian sovereignty, but without real executive power, thus giving all factions an active but non-controlling role in Cambodia's transition during the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) period. Veng Sereyvuth's political negotiation skills earned him the position of Minister of the Prime Minister's Office in the new government.
