Description

Khaki service dress tunic with long sleeves and a fold down collar. The tunic fastens down the front with four gilded buttons, each bearing a map of Australia surmounted by a King's Crown and surrounded by the words 'AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES'. The tunic has four pockets secured by smaller gilded buttons. Two pleated pockets are at the breast and two larger pockets sit below the waistband. A small pocket is set into the waistband above the lower right pocket. A further inset pocket is sewn into the inside of the left panel. Two belt hooks are sewn into the back of the waistband above a back vent. The shoulder straps have the insignia of Lieutenant and below the shoulders are sewn the colour patches of 16 Battalion.

History / Summary

Associated with 2/Lieutenant Thomas Sealy Renshaw. Renshaw served with the Tasmanian Rangers prior to World War One. He attended a short officer's commission course at Duntroon in 1916 and then enlisted on 4 October 1916. Renshaw served with 12 Battalion and returned to Australia on 10 November 1917. Renshaw served with a militia unit during World War Two and he had three children, Phil, Natalie and Stuart who each served with the Australian Forces during that conflict.
