Informal group portrait of convalescent British and Australian officers with Lady Clementine Waring and Una V Saxton on the steps at Lady Waring's estate 'Lennel' at Coldstream in Berwickshire, Scotland. Identified standing: left to right: Belgian Second Lieutenant (2/Lt); Belgian 2/Lt; Temporary 2/Lt Richard Edward St Barbe Baker (later MC), Royal Engineers; Captain Henry George Gandy DSO, Royal Engineers; Captain Frederick Harold Tubb VC, 7th Battalion of Longwood, Vic (later Major Tubb died of wounds on 20 September 1917); Captain William Thomas McDonald, 4th Battalion (later killed in action 16 August 1916); Major H E English, 9th Battalion Territorial, Durham Light Infantry; 2/Lt W W Langdon-Thomas, 11th (Reserve) Battalion, The Devonshire Regiment and later the Royal Flying Corps. Seated: Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) John Adams, VD, 14th Battalion, of Bendigo, Vic; Una V Saxton; Lady Waring; Temporary Lt Col Cyril Frankland Meares, Royal Irish Fusiliers. The photograph has been autographed by the British, Belgians and women in the group. The two Belgians are named as 2/Lt ?Bulcke, 23ieme Regiment de Ligne, Belgian Army and 2/Lt ?Ghesquiere, 3ieme Regiment de Chasseur a Pied. After the First World War, St Barbe Baker studied forestry and became an internationally known forester who formed the worldwide society 'The Men of the Trees' and was responsible for planting 27 million trees worldwide and raising awareness of the necessity to conserve and plant forests, for which work he was awarded an OBE.
