Flying suit : Lieutenant Commander D M Stevens, HMAS Brisbane
Green Nomex size 44R flying suit. On the inside rear of the collar is a white label with details on manufacturer details, garment size, NSN number and washing instructions. Above this is a rectangular patch sewn which has in blue embroidery 'J.M.McCONNELL'. Above the left breast pocket is a black and yellow embroidered cloth patch with 'DAVID STEVENS / ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY'. On both epaulettes are rank slides for Lieutenant Commander. There are splashes of dark green paint on the front of flying suit, right arm and on the trouser legs. Midway down the left sleeve is a compartment for storing pens, this compartment is secured by a strip of Velcro. Around the waist of the flying suit are a pair of Velcro size adjusting tabs. Sewn onto the inside of the left trouser leg is a pocket for the stowage of pens and pencils. A black metal ring is attached to the upper portion of this pocket. Attached through this ring are several pieces of white nylon parachute chord, for us as a lanyard. A press stud secures this flap to the garment. On the end of each cuff are velcro size adjusting tabs. On the bottom of each trouser leg is a horizontal zipper for allowing the wearer to put on and take off the flying suit with boots on.
This United States Air Force pattern Nomex flying suit was worn by 113925 Lieutentant Commander David Murray Stevens. Stevens was a memeber of the Task Group Commander's staff in HMAS Brisbane during the Gulf War.
