Ninja Turtle souvenir : HMAS Brisbane

A plastic souvenir sign featuring the cartoon character "Michaelangelo" from the cartoon 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'. The turtle is green and yellow and is riding an engine driven skateboard. He is armed with nunchucks and the word "TURTLES" is prominent along the top of the sign.

This sign was carried onboard the HMAS Brisbane during Gulf War of 1991. The Task Force Commander's staff were known as 'Turtles' because of the distinctive green flying overalls some of them wore. The 'Brisbane Turtles' as they were unofficially called consisted of the following embarked staff: Commodore Oxenbould, Commander Bonser, Lieutenant Commander Gadzio, Lieutenant Commander Stevens, Warrant Officer Signals Yeoman McConnell, Warrant Officer 2nd Class 'Eddie' Amin, Warrant Officer Electronic Warfare Irwin, Chief Petty Officer Gilbert, Petty Officer Electronic Warfare Green and Leading Seaman Electronic Warfare Ducie.
