Belt for officer's coat frock : Assistant Principal E Smith, Women's Royal Naval Service belt
Description
Black patent leather waist belt, with a black lacquered, single prong steel buckle. There are four black lacquered eyelets on the free end of the belt.
History / Summary
This belt was worn with a uniform coat frock by Miss Elsie Smith, an Assistant Principal in the Women's Royal Naval Service during the First World War. In line with current fashion at the time, the belt was worn fairly loose and slightly above the natural waistline. The WRNS was formed in November 1917.
