Australia's soldier tradesmen
This is a recruiting/public relations film. Sub-title: In one of Australia's finest trade schools, young lads are trained to become skilled craftsmen. Film features Balcombe Army Apprentice Training School, located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Lads are shown being instructed in the following: normal secondary educational classes, technical drawing, then a sequence on the following: carpentry, plumbing, bricklaying, chemistry and physics laboratory techniques, electrical theory and practice, tele-communications and electronics, blacksmithing and general metal work, fitting and turning, automotive engineering, automotive electrical engineering and school of music. Apprentices are also featured in various recreational pursuits: football - rugby, Australian rules; hockey, motor cycle scramble, go-kart racing, beach life-saving, skin-diving, sailing, social dancing. Lads are shown in their own canteen, recreation room and library-reading room. Final sequences show apprentices participating in normal infantry-type training and infantry manoeuvres. End title completes the film.
