Description

A sketchbook containing eight pages of black paper, with Japanese characters in white on each page. Attached to the black paper are pencil on paper sketches of botanical drawings. The drawings were done by Mrs. Shizu Ueki. Shizu Ueki is a Japanese nurse who worked as a civilian nurse with the 8th Naval Hospital in Rabaul, New Guinea from 1942-43. She presented a photo album containing photographs, pencil and watercolour sketches and pressed flower specimens to the War Memorial in 2001.
