Description
Three unidentified members of an Australian burial party standing over the mangled bodies of German prisoners. The prisoners, killed the previous morning when a German shell burst among them while being escorted to a prisoner of war cage, were captured at Villers Bretonneux on 24-25 April. This was during the night counter attack by the 13th and 15th Australian Infantry Brigades that succeeded in driving out the German forces and recapturing the town.
