Description

Papers, official records and correspondence associated with the First World War service of Major Noel Medway Loutit. Includes Anzac Army Corps order of 17 May 1915 (Anzac Cove), Divisional Order No 134 of 19 May 1915 (Anzac Cove), a memorandum (20 May 1915) from Lieutenant General W Birdwood reporting the death of Major General W T Bridges, a printed 'Force Order' (9 June 1915) and a 'Special Order' (27 June 1915) by Major General W P Braithwaite communicating King George V's appreciation of the operations undertaken at Gallipoli. Also, a copy, in pencil of 'Operation Memorandum No 16' by Major General J G Legge (2 July 1915) in connection with the use by Turkish forces of captured Australian ammunition and the recommendations to reinforce sandbag parapets with 'brushwood fascines'; briefing note (with sketch map) for 50 Battalion's attack on Mouquet Farm (Somme) on 12 August 1916; typescript memo (from HQ 13th Australian Infantry Brigade) acknowledging the successful attack of 4 July 1918. Also a printed 'Manifesto' from Prime Minister W M Hughes in connection with the second conscription referendum, and a printed 'Message' from Lt Gen Sir William Birdwood supporting Hughes' manifesto. Collection also includes an autographed picture postcard used as a birthday meal menu, an Australian Comforts Fund Christmas card (1918) and some items of personal correspondence.
